49天，《傲慢与偏见》男主拒绝跳舞！

这是第49天读英文版《傲慢与偏见》，前面讲到宾利劝说达西跳舞。

“I certainly shall not. You know how I detest it, unless I am particularly acquainted with my partner. At such an assembly as this, it would be insupportable. Your sisters are engaged, and there is not another woman in the room, whom it would not be a punishment to me to stand up with.”

这段文字是达西的回应，有几个生词阻碍我没浏览明白啥意思。

1. detest

词性：动词

含义：厌恶；憎恨

用法：“how I detest it”，我很厌恶。

2. acquainted

词性：形容词

含义：熟悉的；了解的

用法：“particularly acquainted with my partner”，特别熟悉舞伴。

3. partner

词性：名词

含义：舞伴；伙伴

用法：“my partner”，伙伴。

4. insupportable

词性：形容词

含义：无法忍受的；难以容忍的

用法：“it would be insupportable”，无法忍受的。

5. engaged

词性：形容词

含义：已订婚的；忙碌的；占用的

用法：“Your sisters are engaged”，你的姐妹们有舞伴。

6. punishment

词性：名词

含义：惩罚；处罚

用法：“it would not be a punishment to me”，与不熟悉的女士跳舞是一种折磨。

陌生词扫了一遍，我试着把文字转化为中文：

“我当然不想跳舞。你知道我很烦，除非舞伴是熟悉的人。在这个舞会上是无法忍受的。你的姐妹们正忙着，在这个房间没有其他的舞伴，和不熟悉的人跳舞对我是折磨，还不如站着呢。”

为了更好的理解达西这番话，我逐句拆开读一遍：

1. "I certainly shall not."

"certainly" ，表干脆拒绝。

2. "You know how I detest it, unless I am particularly acquainted with my partner."

detest：强烈反感。

particularly acquainted：特别熟悉。

3. "At such an assembly as this, it would be insupportable."

"at such an assembly as this" ，介词短语作状语。

assembly：集会，指舞会上的社交聚会。

insupportable：无法忍受的。

4. "Your sisters are engaged, and there is not another woman in the room, whom it would not be a punishment to me to stand up with."

engaged：已订婚的，有了舞伴。

punishment：惩罚。
